We didn’t always know it was possible. It’s taken us many years in business to gain the skills and understanding that we bring to the table today.

OUR STORY

2009: The year that Nadine went into business for herself… and quickly became the worst boss she had ever had. Here’s how she tells the story…

When I decided to leave the corporate world, I was excited to simply be free. I offered corporate consulting in addition to coaching, since I knew that world so intimately after 16 years in various corporate leadership positions. It worked, and I quickly saw traction.

However, my TRUTH was it wasn’t what really lit me up. Over time, this began to weigh on me. Finally, I took a good, honest look at my schedule and saw that I was only spending 20% of my time doing what I LOVED MOST: coaching business owners.

That day, I made a commitment to make a shift and start spending 80% of my time on the work I most loved. I aimed to replace all of my corporate consulting contracts with coaching work — and I did, quickly. That is the power of standing for your highest truth.

But I soon realized that creating the life and business you want is about more than doing work you love. You also have to feel good about HOW you’re doing it.

Over the year that followed, I saw great success, but also got into a place of intense striving, pushing and exhaustion. As a former competitive athlete, I was great at taking myself to the limits. My business and life became dominated by this hyper-masculine “driving” energy. Eventually, this took its toll.

Yes, I was doing work I loved – but was the rest of my life in alignment with what I deeply valued? Was everything I was “doing” in alignment with what I “said” was important to me?

It wasn’t. I was out of integrity and out of alignment. The gap was wide and caused a tension deep within me that I know you can probably relate to. I had fallen into what I’ve since called the “Say/Do Gap.”

I always said that my health and family were the most important things to me, but I wasn’t living in alignment with those values. When Derek and I both lost parents rather suddenly, it was like the Universe was smacking me in the face with the truth:

No one will give you that “free time” or “space” you say you’re waiting for or wanting. You have to take it yourself.

And so I did. I took complete leadership of my time — integrating my business and life more, changing the way I supported clients and enlisting Derek’s help to find opportunities to simplify (one of his superpowers).

Instead of making constant compromises, I started to seek out yes/and opportunities. And they were always there!

My eyes were open to the true POSSIBILITY of living and working in a way that makes regret impossible and opens up space for everything that truly matters.

This led me to one more big shift that brought us to where we are today: joining forces with Derek under one, fully integrated, values-centered coaching and consulting company.
